For all those out there!
Sorry! Things have been a bit crazy lately, but I'm posting now!
I know a lot of people are worrying about me leaving for Africa in July. As soon as you say "Uganda" people freak out, think you're crazy, ask "why?!", etc. I know good and well what I'm getting myself into, and the risk that I am taking in going.
I was doing some research tonight though, and I found where exactly I will be in relation to the conflict of Northern Uganda.

I put a red star on the area I will be working in. As the map legend indicates, the yellow areas are where all the conflict has been occurring for the past 20 years.
I just felt like this is something worth sharing! And that everyone would want to know.

159 DAYS UNTIL THE TRIP!

Countdown and Updates!
There are 182 days until the trip to Uganda!
To date I have raised < $100, BUT I am not letting that stop me!
I am soon to be speaking to a few churches, who will take up a love offering for me. And I also will be writing letters to family members and friends for their support in both finances and prayers!
I should be going to apply for my passport sometime soon as well, and I'm using my own money from my college refund check to do this.
I also have been able to apply for TWO on-campus jobs this week, and hopefully I will get one of them, because ALL of that money would go towards the trip because I know it would be God's blessing if I got the job.
Thanks so much for your continued support and encouragement!

Katie Davis:
Here is the Bio of the Founder of Amazima, who I will be working with when I go to Uganda.
In December of 2006, Katie Davis traveled to Uganda for the first time. She was immediately
captivated and fell in love with the people and the culture. While in Uganda, Katie met Pastor
Isaac Wagaba who implored her to come teach Kindergarten at his orphanage in Buziika,
Uganda, called Canaan Children's Transit Center.
In the summer of 2007, Katie returned to Uganda to teach Kindergarten at Canaan. As she
walked the children home from class each day, she was shocked to see the sheer number of
school-aged children sitting idly on the side of the road or working in the fields. It was then that
it came to Katie's attention that there were very few government-run public schools in Uganda,
and none in the area where she was working. Most schools in Uganda are privately run and
therefore require school fees for attendance. Due to the extreme poverty in this region of
Uganda, many children are unable to afford schooling.
God laid it on Katie's heart to start a child sponsorship program, matching orphaned children
who are unable to afford schooling with sponsors anywhere in the world. Sponsors pay $300.00
per year to send these children to school and provide school supplies, 2 hot meals each day,
and needed minor medical care. Originally planning to have 40 children in the program, Katie
had signed up 150 by January 2008. By the grace of God, in December 2008 the sponsorship
program had successfully sent all 150 children to school for a full year and provided them will
all life's essentials.
Every Saturday morning the children in the program, as well as others from the village, arrive at
Katie's home for fellowship, a hot lunch, and Bible study led by an Ugandan employee. The
children sing praises to the Lord until late in the afternoon. Before returning home, they are
each given a bag of food for their family.
Amazima also strives to provide the children with spiritual growth. While the children are in
school, two Ugandan Amazima employees spend time in the six villages where the children in
the program live, holding Bible studies and spiritual growth activities with the families and
guardians of the children to ensure they are coming home to a safe spiritual environment. Each
child in the program is also visited by a social worker once every two weeks for a home visit to
ensure that they are getting proper care and thriving in their home environment.

What a beautiful and captivating woman of God she is. The first time I read this bio, all I could say was "Wow." Her testament of Faith has already had a great impact on my life, and I hope that I will get to meet her. To all of you reading this, please pray for her and her girls, and her ministry. <3
Be sure to check out her newest blog, reflecting on her year 2010 in Uganda. It will lead you to tears.

Click to give Website:
This is a FREE website I came upon, and all you have to do is click a button and money will be sent to the organization/cause of your choosing. They're able to do this from the ads on the website, and they use the money they get from those to give to charities when people click.
It's called "Click to Give". I recommend putting it in your bookmarks and clicking everyday!

A first!
I received my first donation yesterday evening! Every little bit helps :)
I have officially applied for the trip, and the only thing missing for now is some release forms (which I'll be mailing in this week), passport information (because I don't have a passport yet), my $200 deposit (which I can turn in anytime, but obviously, the sooner the better as they can only take so many people on the trip and the deposit insures my spot), and lastly 2 letters of recommendation, which I plan on asking two people to fill out after the busy holiday season is over. I don't want to pile on extra work for people to do right now!
I also found out some more information on the payment for the trip after I applied. $2,000.00 is due 60 days prior to the trip, which means I need that much by late May 2011. This $2,000.00 plus the $200.00 deposit will set me up for my plane tickets. The rest of the payment left over after paying the $2,000.00 (Which can be from $1,000.00 - 1,200.00) will be due 2 weeks before the trip. Which means early July for me.
I'll be updating you guys at least twice a week on my cause and how donations are coming.
For now, fundraising ideas have included a bake sale with my small group through Elevation Church. I'll let you know when and where it will be when I am certain that it's going to work out.
If you have any other ideas that can help me at this time, feel free to leave a comment below! Thank you guys for your constant prayer and encouragement.
